USS Penumbra Sim Narrative, SD 202007.31 ANNOUNCEMENT: . This sim was a series of Awards followed by a promotion. The text is preserved below. . Congratulations to Tabeshk Tibris for his promotion to Lieutenant Commander! . Congratulations are due to many others as well for their various Awards. See the text below for details. The Main Mess Hall: . The crew of the USS Penumbra had been instructed to gather in the Mess Hall for some special announcements. Tables and chairs had been cleared from the center of the room, leaving a large open area. A slightly raised platform with a podium had been placed at one end of the large hall. The senior staff stood at attention across the hall with other members of the crew arrayed behind them. . Captain Zak Taylor stood on the raised area. Beside him stood Lt. Col. Travis Patterson. The Captain nodded and the Colonel called, "Lieutenant T'Lin, front and center." . The female Vulcan Science Officer stepped forward. "Yes, sir?" . The Captain spoke, "We have been utilizing a construct that you made for us to the point we've almost taken it for granted." He paused and then said, "In recognition of the Communication Algorithm ... I hereby award you the Anastas Medal of Achievement." He pinned the medal on the Lieutenant's uniform and gave her a crisp salute before adding, "This award is given to those who distinguish themselves by outstanding meritorious achievement or service." . T'Lin accepted the award graciously and said, "Well, the point of its creation was to be used for our convenience, but I thank you, sir." . Zak smiled, "Thank you, Lieutenant, you may rejoin the line." He turned to Patterson, "Colonel, next?" . Patterson glanced at his armPADD and then called, "Lieutenant JG Hawke, step forward." . Kat blinked and gestured, "Wait, me?" . Zak nodded, "Yes, Lieutenant, you." . With a blush, and a look of surprise on her face, she stepped forward.

. Zak said, "Ms. Hawke, I dug through the records and discovered that while it's slacked off a little recently, you earned this recognition a while back. I am pleased to award you the Gold Medallion. This award is given by the Commanding Officer of a ship, station, or ourpost in recognition of exceptional log writing." . Patterson smirked as Kat said, "Thank you, Captain." . "Just keep up the good work, Ms. Hawke," Zak said. "You may return to the line." . Patterson consulted his PADD. "Lieutenant Denovan Hawke ... and myself, ironically, to the front." He took a step off the platform and performed a crisp about-face." Den joined him there. . The Captain began, "Lieutenant ... and Colonel ... I feel it appropriate to honor recent exceptional work by the both of you. I hereby award each of you the Starfighter Award, given to those who distinguish themselves in support of operations by 'heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight.' This is awarded for the dogfight battle in a Delta Flyer and the Cerberus against Kyrathian Fighters on SD 202006.19." . Zak paused a moment and then said, "While the two of you are here ... Lt. Cmdr. Carter, would you join us up here?" . Carter blinked a moment, then nodded and stepped forward. . Zak continued, " Mr. Carter, you also flew a Flyer in that fight and earned the same award, but ... you already had one, so ... you earned The Starfighter Cluster. In fact, I found it difficult to believe Patterson didn't already have one!" Patterson gave a slight shrug and the Captain said, "OK, you three can get back in line. Next!" . Carter and Denovan stepped back to their places in the line and Patterson returned to the platform alongside the Captain. He consulted his PADD and called, "Captain Taylor, Lieutenant Commander Relok, Lieutenant Hawke, and Lieutenant JG Hawke. Front and Center."

. Kat blinked and blushed again, scratching the space near her ear, unused to the attention but stepping forward. As she did she grabbed her brother to move him back forward to so she could hide by him. . As the Hawkes stepped forward, Relok muttered, "Huh? Me?" . The Captain also seemed surprised and tapped his chest, "Um .... me too?" Then he remembered he'd prepared this list and said, "Oh, right." He cleared his throat and addressed the three officers gathered in front of him, "So, you three, and myself apparently, have earned this special recognition. Each of us is awarded the Silver Medallion. This award is given in recognition of exceptional attendance ratings (90% or better)." . Relok glanced around at the others, apparently also workaholics, as he said, "Interesting award. Thank you, Captain." . Zak consulted his PADD and said, "So ... Kat step back and Tabby step forward." Kat and Tabby swapped places and the Captain continued, "Relok mentioned an award for workaholics. Check this one out. We four," he gestured at Relok, Denovan, Tabby, and then himself, "are awarded The 25 Sims Award. This recognizes 25 consecutive sims without an absence!" . Relok muttered, "Um, right another award for being a workaholic. Still," he raised his voice a notch, "Thank you, Captain." . But Tabby looked stunned and confused. "I'm a ... workaholic?" He made a raspberry sound that blended into the grumble, "I'm turning into Relok!" . Patterson smiled, "As if that's bad enough ... Tabby, Denovan, step back please." . Zak smirked, "Yeah, Relok, just me and you get this one. The 50 Consecutive Sims Award! Yay, us!" . Relok rolled his eyes as he said, "Thanks ... again." . Tabby made another raspberry as he muttered, "Nerds." Kat hid a giggle behind one hand. . T'Lin raised an eyebrow and said, "I think we need to get you two a social life."

. The Captain grinned and then cleared his throat. "OK, so rather than call all of you up for the next couple ... everybody except Kat and Carshell get this next one (sorry guys, but you'll understand in a second)." He lifted one of the medals to show it off as he said, "The Gamma Cluster, recognizing one year's service in the Gamma Quadrant." . After showing it a moment, he lowered it and said, "And one more, this one for the ENTIRE CREW of the USS Penumbra." He raised another medal, "The Battle Readiness Ribbon. This is awarded for being ready and willing to face the Kyrathian Swarm in hostile actions." . Again, after a moment, he lowered that ribbon and said, "I have one last award. Colonel, call the straggler, please." . Patterson nodded and called, "Lieutenant Tibris, front and center." . Tabby stepped forward again and the Captain said, "Mr. Tibris, there wasn't a specific award just for this, but I thought it deserved recognition. In honor of proposing the Mind-The-Gap procedure to get the lost Eggs from the Nursery Moon, I hereby award you The Captain's Commendation." . "Neat!" Tabby said as the Captain pinned on the award. . Zak turned to Patterson, "Colonel, was there something else? Seems like I'm forgetting something .... probably wasn't very important." . Patterson smirked then took a breath and faced Tabby still standing in front of the podium. "Lieutenant Tibris, it has been brought to my attention that you have conducted your interview with a member in good standing presence as a Host within the USF." . Zak rolled his eyes and said, "Yeah, I had to get an earful from another Captain over that!" . Tabby cringed, "Ruh-roh," he said in the "Scooby Doo" accent. . Patterson smirked again and continued, "She explained the rules, abide by them and you shall be fine." . Tabby asked, "Did I do bads?"

. The Captain scowled slightly, "So, it seems in spite of Tabby's every effort to mess it up somehow ...," he trailed off and gestured to Patterson. . The Colonel straighted and announced, "Tabeshk Tibris, it is my duty to hereby promote you to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, with all responsibilities and requirements that are entailed of the position. Do you accept?" . Tabby wobbled slightly before saying, "Yeah .... yeah!" Then he fainted and fell to the floor. . Relok's mouth fell open, then he closed it and muttered, "Tabby ... a Lieutenant Commander? We ... have to ... call him ..... Commander, now?" . Zak sighed, "Yes, Commander, we do." He watched as Tabby fell to the floor. "Meh, somebody can wake him up now." . T'Lin also watched as Tabby fell, then glanced around. "Who wants to carry him to the medbay?" . Patterson glared at him and then barked out, "I did not give you permission to faint, COMMANDER!" . Kat, the nurse on duty, giggled and moved to kneel beside Tabby, tickling him to wake him up." . Denovan moved to the Gatorade jug as T'Lin grabbed the now-cold pot of coffee. Den counted, "In three ... two ... one ...," and together they dumped the cold liquids onto the sprawled Lieutenant Commander. . Tabby sputtered awake and mumbled, "I ... comm ... comm ... Commander!"
